Fall Writing Series: An Evening with Tess Gallagher and Alice Derry

Tess Gallagher will be joined by special guest Alice Derry in an evening of poetry. Reading will begin at 7:00 p.m., with reception and book signing to follow.

About Tess Gallagher:

Tess Gallagher is a poet, novelist, essayist, and playwright. She received a BA and MA from the University of Washington, where she studied with Theodore Roethke, and an MFA from the University of Iowa. Her new book, Is, Is Not, was released by Graywolf Press in May of 2019. Her other collections of poetry include: Instructions to the Double (1976), Willingly (1984), Moon Crossing Bridge (1992), Owl-Spirit Dwelling (1994), My Black Horse: New and Selected Poems (1995), and Dear Ghosts (2006).

She has received two National Endowment of the Arts Awards, a fellowship from the Guggenheim Foundation, and the Maxine Cushing Gray Foundation Award.

She has taught at Kirkland College, St. Lawrence University, the University of Arizona in Tucson, the University of Montana in Missoula, Syracuse University, Willamette University, Bucknell University, and Whitman College.

She spends her time in county Sligo, Ireland, and her hometown of Port Angeles, Washington.

 

About Alice Derry:

Alice Derry was born in Oregon, and raised in Washington and Montana. She received an MA in English from The American University in Washington D.C., and an MFA from Goddard College in Vermont. 

Derry's newest book, Hunger, was released by MoonPath Press in 2017. Her other collections of poetry include: Stages of Twilight (1986), Clearwater (1997), Strangers to Their Courage (2001), and Tremolo (2011). 

Before retiring from teaching in 2009, Derry taught English and German at Peninsula College in Port Angeles, Washington.
